Why test the soil?
- Gives the safe bearing capacity — the footing size is designed from it
- Finds filled ground, soft clay, expansive soil or high water table before you build
- Required by most authorities for multi-storey and commercial buildings
- Usually costs less than 1–2 % of the structure, and can save much more in foundations
