Look at finished work
Visit two or three houses the contractor has finished and talk to the owners. Photos alone are not enough.
Get it in writing
A written quotation with the scope, materials (brands and grades), stage-wise payments and time. Compare quotations item by item — the cheapest total often leaves things out.
Engineer on site
Ask who checks the steel and concrete before each pour. A contractor who works from proper drawings, with an engineer, saves you from the most expensive mistakes.
Red flags
- Large advance before any work
- No drawings, or 'we'll manage on site'
- Price far below everyone else
- No receipts, no written agreement
Pay by stages
Pay as each stage is finished and checked — our payment plan calculator shows a fair schedule.
